NBA Phonenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs April 27, 2008
The NBA Phoenix Suns made an impressive game 4 showing by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 105-86.
The Suns had a terrible game 3 against the Spurs and entering game 4 the statistics were against them as no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit. The loss in game 3 was significant in that the Suns lost when the had the home court advantage at US Airways Center and were outplayed by a significant margin as Spurs point guard Tony Parker had a high of 41 points. With this backdrop of doom-and-gloom, there was little doubt in most fans of the Suns that game 4 likely would be their this season.
To the surprise of many, the version of the Suns who defeated the Spurs twice in regular season and showed an incredible ability to contain the Spurs defensively came out to play. Not only were the Suns successful in staving off elimination, they won in a resounding manner. The Suns dominated the Spurs throughout and in every aspect of the game. At one point, the Suns were up 32 points against the Spurs. The standout for the Suns was Raja Bell with 27 points and Boris Diaw with 20. More importantly, defensively, Diaw did an outstanding job of defending Tony Parker and containing him to just 18 points after his stellar 41 points showing in game 3. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili also struggled with just 14 points and 10 points respectively.
Many Suns fans hope the Suns can repeat this performance but likely realize that the stats are against them and it's hard for any team to win 4 in a row now especially against the defending champion Spurs.
