2008 NBA Playoffs
Lakers are down 2 games in the series with Boston and are set to play again on June 10, 2008 in LA.
Game 2 of the Celtics-Lakers playoff series for the NBA championship was another thriller on Sunday June 8, 2008. Although the Boston Celtics are half way to winning their first championship in 22 years, the performance at times in Game 2 was disappointing. Paul Pierce had another spectacular game with 28 points and Leon Powe added 21 in just 15 minutes of play. Although during the strong third quarter it seemed that Boston was able to drop every bucket with Kevin Garnett adding 17 points and Ray Allen adding 17 for the night, the team just entered a sleeping phase in the 4th quarter seemingly content to put it in neutral and watch the Laker's Kobe Bryant do his thing.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers put it best when he said he was not entirely pleased with the club's overall effort which allowed the Lakers to come back from a 24 point deficit in the third quarter to come within a couple of points by the end of the game.
During the 4th, the Lakers were playing in desperation mode and it was working. Bryant added 13 points, including two free throws with less than 1 minutes left to play capping an impressive 31-9 run that drew them within 104-102. Showing his NBA Most Valuable Player for 2008 credentials, Kobe Bryant ended the night with 30 points and Pau Gasol added 17 but the Lakers ultimately fell short.
Game 3 in Los Angeles on June 10, 2008 will be highly anticipated as the Lakers try to use the home court to make up the deficit. No doubt there will be many fans, including perhaps movie stars and athletes, in attendance in LA.
