Duo Core for the Masses Intel's New Duo Core Processors are a good upgrade choice for those concerned about the environment and energy conservation
We know that compact florescents, hybrid cars, hydrogen fuel cells, composting, and recyclying are all important aspects of the 'Green' movement. Many businesses are developing new technologies which benefit the environment and conservation.
Recently Intel introduced a line of low cost processors (E2140 & E2160) that will eventually replace the Celeron as the low end in their processor range. For Intel, the Celeron name was never held in as high regard as the well-respected Pentium name. But this is not just a wise move for the company but great for consumers as these CPUs are not just underpowered rebranded Celerons in disguise. Yes they have less cache memory (1MB) and a slower bus speed (800 Mhz) than the current generation of Core 2 duo processors but aside from those differences they are very similar to the latest Core 2 Duo processors in design. The result is a group of low cost processors (less than $100) that will cost less than half the price of the lowest priced Core 2 Duo processor with as good a performance as previous generation Pentium 4's. Through clever use of techology (basically each clock cycle does more and the path the data has to travel has been shortened) Intel has been able to make lower clock speed CPU's such as the 1.6Ghz E2140 run as fast or faster than a previous generation 3.0Ghz Pentium 4.
The result of this is a cooler running cpu which consumes less power. Yes, less power means this is a 'Greener' cpu. Those concerned about the environment should upgrade now!
